Safety Netting Installation

Correctly installed safety netting is what stands between a workforce and a fall. Red Safety Netting provides FASET-accredited safety netting installation to BS EN 1263-1 — supplied, rigged, inspected and handed over by qualified Safety Net Riggers for principal contractors and roofing trades nationwide.

A safety net is only as good as its installation

A fall arrest net relies entirely on being rigged correctly: the right anchorage, the right tension and initial sag, the fall height kept as low as practicable, and sufficient clearance beneath so the net can deflect without striking the structure below. Get any of that wrong and the net may not perform when it matters. That is why installation should only ever be carried out by trained, competent riggers — not a general site team.

Why choose Red Safety Netting

  • Qualified Safety Net Riggers. Our riggers hold the CSCS Safety Net Rigger qualification (NVQ Level 2) and rig to BS EN 1263, BS 8411 and FASET guidance.
  • FASET-accredited and audited. Appointing an audited FASET member is the simplest way for a principal contractor to evidence a competent appointment under CDM 2015 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
  • Correct clearance and fall height. We rig nets as close as practicable below the work platform and extend a minimum of 3m beyond the leading edge, calculating clearance so the net deflects safely.
  • Inspected and signed over. Every net is inspected by a competent person during rigging and at handover, with the documentation and test tags your site needs.

Our installation process

  • Site survey and rig design — we assess the structure, access and programme, and design the net layout, anchorage points and clearance.
  • Supply of compliant nets — System S fall arrest nets to BS EN 1263-1, test-tagged and within date.
  • Rigging — carried out from suitable access equipment by qualified riggers, tensioned with the correct initial sag.
  • Handover inspection — a competent person inspects and signs the system over before any trade works above it.
  • Ongoing inspection — seven-day re-inspections while work continues over the net, plus checks after adverse weather or any impact.
  • De-rig — safe removal and clearance of the system once work at height is complete.

Applications

  • New-build residential and commercial roofing
  • Steel frame erection and industrial buildings
  • Re-roofing and refurbishment
  • Large-span warehouse and distribution units
  • Any work at height where a fall cannot be directly prevented

Compliance and documentation

Under CDM 2015 the principal contractor must appoint competent specialists and hold evidence of safe systems of work. Our installations come with the records that demonstrate compliance: rigging and handover inspection reports, net test tags (nets over 12 months old carry a current test tag), and the FASET-backed assurance that the work meets current industry guidance. If a net arrests a fall it is taken out of service and inspected by a competent person before any further use.

Safety Netting Installation FAQs

Who is allowed to install fall arrest safety netting?

Only trained, competent Safety Net Riggers. The recognised qualification is the FASET-delivered CSCS Safety Net Rigger card, backed by an NVQ Level 2. Installing nets without competent riggers risks both safety and a failed CDM appointment.

How close to the work area should the net be rigged?

As close as practicably possible below the working platform to keep the fall height low. Where achievable nets are rigged no more than around 2m beneath the work level, and always extend a minimum of 3m beyond the leading edge where operatives are working.

How much clearance is needed beneath the net?

Enough for the net to deflect under a fall without the person striking the structure or ground below. The required clearance depends on the net size and rigging height, which is why we calculate it as part of the rig design rather than applying a fixed figure.

How often must an installed net be inspected?

A competent person inspects at rigging and handover. Thereafter the user makes a visual check before each use, with a competent-person re-inspection every seven days while work continues above the net, and after adverse weather or any impact.

Are you FASET accredited?

Yes. Red Safety Netting is an audited FASET member with qualified riggers. You can ask to see our Annual FASET Membership Certificate and SSiP accreditation as evidence of a competent appointment.

Do you install nationwide?

Yes. We provide safety netting installation across the UK for principal contractors, roofing contractors and main contractors.
